Colonia de Sacramento (Uruguay)
Due to the national Independence day of Argentina, when every public institute (including museums) are closed, I decided to switch city (and country) for one day, and I took a ferry to Colonia, the oldest city of Uruguay, which is just 50 km away from Buenos Aires. The governor of Rio de Janiero founded the city in a strategic peninsula at the fallout of the Rio de la Plata, by Portugal royal decree with the intention to pis of the Spanish in Buenos Aires. The intention reached the target, because in the year of the foundation the Spanish conquered the city. In a few years the Portuguese retook it. In 100 year the city changed hands altogether nine times between them. After the war of independence against Brazil the city became part of Uruguay.
The city is a small treasure-chest, and shows a special mix of Spanish and Portugal architectures. The city wall was reconstructed on the ruins of the original with materials found of the ancient wall. They are now trying to rebuild the old city gate with the same method, but still collecting and searching the old stones of the original gate. Their are in every corner a small museum, where they proudly show the Spanish and Portugal history of the city. The lightning of the city is made by the original candelabras (switched to electricity), it is very cozy at night.
About being cozy... I don't understand how it happens but I got stranded in Colonia. I lost my ship, bye queueing in the wrong line... When I realised the mistake, the ship has already left. And the last ship for tonight was already full. So, I searched a nice cozy hotel, and bought my ticket for tomorrow morning online. "The feeling is priceless, for everything else there is MasterCard..."

Reggel az Argentin Nemzetközi Kapcsolatok Tanácsánál tettünk látogatást nagykövet úrral,ahol a szinte az összes rendszerváltás utani magyar külügyminiszter tartott eloadast, képüket is megtekinthetük a bejáratnál es a tárgyalóban. Ilyen "hall of fame"-et, lehet otthon is bevezetünk. :-)
Utána Anita barátnőmmel megszemléltük a MALBA-t (Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires), ahol az állandó kiállításon túl egy nagyon érdekes időszaki kiallitas is volt a saját bevallása szerint Vasarely munkássága altal ihletett Rogelio Polesello műveiből. Ezután maszkaltunk a Palermo negyedben, ami Buenos Aires legelőkelőbb része. Most már értem miért. Hatalmas családi házak - a belváros közepén, nagyköveti rezidenciák. Rózsadomb a köbön.
Innen sétáltunk el az Universidad de Buenos Aires Jogi és Társadalomtudományi Karára,ahol az egyetem egyetlen Jean Monet Chair-t elnyert professzorával és egy kollégájával beszélgettem. Utana végig sétáltunk a kar épületén. Néha panaszkodom, hogy a Corvinuson rossz az infrastruktúra, lassúak a számítógépek stb. Hát... Ezek után biztosan kevesebbet fogok... A termekben a '70-es években vagy régebben készült fapadok vannak, olyanok, mint amiket a regi magyar filmekben szereplő vidéki iskolákban láttam, mindehhez gyatra vilagitás és filctoll nélküli flipp-chartok társulnak. A ppt és a prezi itt felejtős... A kollégáknak nincs irodájuk, csak az intézet igazgatóknak van egy szobája, amin a tanszeki titkárnővel osztozik. Az oktatók otthon készülnek az órákra (vagy ahol akarnak), egyetemi számítógépük vagy nyomtatójuk nincs, az épületben csak egy közös elkülönített klubszoba van a tanároknak. Engem ez kicsit sokkolt...
Azután még az egyik kollégéval megittunk egy kávét és elfogyasztottunk hozza egy "medialuna"-t (azaz félholdat), ami egzotikusan hangzik,de gyakorlatilag egy mini-kroaszon... Tartalmas nap volt.

Buenos Aires 4.
I started the day the Argentinean Council of International Affairs (CARI), where we had a meeting together with the Hungarian ambassador and the academic director of the Council. Nearly all Hungarian foreign ministers (after the democratic transition) hold lectures here and their pictures are all in the "hall of fame" of the Council. I will suggest to make something similar back at home. :-)
After the meeting I went to the MALBA (Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires) with my Hungarian friend, Anita. The permanent exhibition was all right, but even more interesting was the temporal exhibition of the early works of Rogelio Polesello, who said that he was inspired by the art of Victor Vasarely. Then we walked through the district of Palermo, which is the home of the Argentinean high class and the fanciest foreign ambassadors. From there we finished our walk at the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), where I had a meeting with a Jean Monet professor and his colleague, Alejandro. I am sometimes complaining about the poor infrastructure of Corvinus. Now I will do it less... In the UBA just the heads of departments have offices, which they share with the secretary. The rest of the professors don't have any infrastructure. They prepare for the classes at home, there is a club (common salon) for the colleagues where they can sit and have a rest between classes. In the classrooms the students have wooden banks made during the "colonels dictatorship" (1975-1984), surely much older than me and there is one flip-chart per room. Forget about ppt or prezi... It was a bit shocking for me...
After we went to have a coffee and a "medialuna" with Alejandro, which sounds very exotic but it is a small croissant. :-) It was an other good day.

Vasárnap lévén a napom egy kis lustálkodással indult, úgyhogy csak 11 körül indultam el városnéző túrámra. Elmetróztam és gyalogoltam az emberi jogok központjáig, ahol az 1974-83 közötti katonai diktatúra áldozataira és a Falklandi-háborúra emlékező állandó kiállítások vannak. Szerencsére egy részük szabadtéri, ugyanis a megérkezésemkor derült ki, hogy a helyhatósági választások miatt minden állami múzeum zárva tart... Úgyhogy a napom köztéri parkokban sétálva töltöttem, illetve délután szieszta után dolgoztam egy kicsit. A Központtól elbuszoztam a zseniális Floralis Genérica szoborhoz. Posztolok is egy fotót róla. Megnéztem a Recoleta negyedet és Evita Perón mauzóleumát, bementem több kézműves vásárba, ahol kivételesen vettem is valamit, méghozzá egy nagyon szép fekete marhabőr övet 10 dollárért. Meg egy nagy adag frissen facsart narancslevet. Utána vegig sétáltam az Avenida Corientes-en, ami tele van szinhazakkal, tiszta Broadway. :-) Utána pedig megnéztem a brit bevándorlók által Argetina függetlenségének 100. évfordulójára épített tornyot, amit a Falklandi-háború után az Angolok tornyáról (Torre de los Ingleses) átneveztek Torre Monumental-ra. Este elmentem vacsorázni egy professzor ismerősömmel, az Universidad de Buenos Airesről, akivel utána még nehány pohár bort is leguritottunk a megismerkedésünkre való tekintettel.
A helyhatósági választásokról még egy mondat. Az argentin elnök asszony peronista-kirchnerista partja, a Victoria csúfos vereséget szenvedett, Buenos Airsben és az ország második legnagyobb városában, Cordobaban is a harmadik helyre szorult két jobboldali-konzervativ part mögött. Úgy tűnik, az embereknek elegük lett a Kirchner família 12 évnyi kormányzása után. Bár az októberi elnökválasztásokig meg sok víz elfolyik a Rio de la Platan. :-)

My Sunday started with a bit of extra time in bed in the morning. I went to the Center for Human Rights, where there are some permanent exhibitions about the terror of the military junta between 1974-1983, including a museum about the Falkland-conflict. Fortunately some of it were open air, because - it turned out on site - every state museum were closed due to the local elections... So I spent my day walking in parks and on the streets of Buenos Aires. I took a bus to have a look at the genius Floralis Genérica sculpture, visited the Recoleta district with the tomb of Evita Perón. After I crossed a big artisanal Sunday market, where I bought a nice belt made of real cow-leather for 10 USD. And a big portion of freshly squeezed orange juice. Then I walk on the Avenida Corientes full of theatres, shows and operas. After I visited the Torre Monumental, which was originally the Torre de los Ingleses, because British immigrants built it to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Argentinean independence, but was renamed after the Falkland war. At night I went out for dinner with a professor of the University of Buenos Aires.
About the local elections: the peronista-kirchnerist party of the President Christina Fernandez-Kirchner lost heavily and became third in Buenos Aires and in the second biggest Argentinean city Córdoba as well, after two rightwing-conservative (a moderate and a radical) parties. It seems that the people are had enough of the Kirchner family during the last 12 years. However we have to wait until the October's presidential elections to draw conclusions.
