Brasilia
After a nice 12 hour flight I arrived in the late afternoon to Brasilia. I had no further plans just to have a shower and have a drink or two (strictly for medical reasons). The good company for the whiskey was secured by Norbi, thank you very much! :-)
This morning I was starting early to see the city. I had this "retro-futuristic" feeling which you have after looking the original Star Trek series with William Shatner. The city has wast spaces and the city council doesn't let modify the original  structure with new buildings in the centre dreamed and designed by the modernist Oscar Niemeyer. At 9.17 I was wandering next to a museum and tried to enter, when the security guys, smoking and having breakfast in the entrance, said that they are closed, they did not let bother themselves by the shield printed with capital letters showing the opening hour between 9-17. How do you say "mañana" in Portuguese...?
In the afternoon I have visited the sister institute of the IFAT (Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Hungary): the Fundação Alexandre de Gusmão (FUNAG).

Brazíliaváros
Egy laza, 12 órás repülőút után helyi idő szerint tegnap este 6.30-ra megérkeztem Brazíliavárosba, az aznap esti programom csak egy tusolás és két pohár szigorúan orvosi ajánlására magamhoz vett whisky volt, melyhez a jó társaság is adott volt. Köszönöm Norbi! :-)
Ma reggel életemben először láttam közli brit élőben és a szabadban. Úgyhogy a csodálatosan indult napomon már 8.30-tól a festői szépséggel nem vádolható, tipikus "NDK-stílusban" épült Brazíliaváros utcáit róttam. Olyan érzésem volt, mint amikor az eredeti Star Trek sorozatot néztem néhány évvel ezelőtt, még William Shatnerrel: "retro-futurisztikus fíling". Egy 50 évvel ezelőtt modernnek megálmodott, autós közlekedésre épülő várost láttam, hatalmas terekkel, mely bármelyik telekspekulans álma lehetne, de az állam az eredeti Oscar Niemeyer által 1950-es évek végén megtervezett városképhez senkinek sem enged hozzányúlni. 9.17-kor gondoltam bepróbálkozok egy múzeumba, de az ajtóban cigiző és/vagy reggeliző biztonsági őrök laza kézlegyintéssel jelezték, hogy még zárva vannak. Persze a bejárati ajtón nagy betűvel kint állt (angolul is), hogy nyitás 9-kor. Sebaj. Hogy is van portugálul, hogy "mañana"...?
Délután pedig ellátogattam a Fundação Alexandre de Gusmão (FUNAG) intézetbe, mely a KKI brazil partnere.

Már évek óta mocorog bennem a gondolat, hogy szeretnék elmenni Latin-Amerikába, hogy megismerjem azokat az országokat, melyekről a Spanyolországban elő "bevándorló" argentin, uruguayi és ecuadori barátaimtól annyit hallottam. A magyar kormány új deli nyitás politikája kapcsán kezdtünk el a Külügyi és Külgazdasági Intézetben szervezni egy konferenciát, melynek kapcsán kerestünk Latin-Amerikával tudományos igényességgel foglalkozó kutatókat, szakértőket. Ekkor jöttünk rá, hogy Magyarországon ez a tudományos életben egy hiányszakma. Egy kezemen meg tudom számolni azokat a fiatal kutatókat, akik a témával mélyebben foglalkoznak, beszélik valamelyik helyi nyelvet és még némi helyismeretük is van. Innen adódott az ötlet, hogy szervezni kellene nyárra, amikor az oktatási szünet miatt az egyetemről se hiányoznak annyira, egy olyan körutat, melynek keretében a deli kontinens országainak külügyi intézeteit, nagyobb egyetemeit és néhány gazdasági kutatóintézetet végigjárva kapcsolatok építünk ki vagy újítunk meg.

 A Külgazdasági és Külügyminisztérium és a magyar nagykövetségek, konzulátusok valamint a Budapestre akkreditált célországai nagykövetségek segítségével szervezem a hivatalos programokat. A találkozók és megbeszélések között és után azonban talán az utam legfontosabb része az, hogy életközelből ismerjem meg a helyi kultúrát, a nyelvjárások, az embereket és szokásaikat, a helyi és régiós történelmet és a gazdasági, politikai folyamatokat. Mindehhez a legjobb a módszer, ha megpróbálok kicsit elvegyülni, ezért a hátizsákos-buszos jellegű túra mellett döntöttem. Persze a hatalmas távolságok miatt néha repülőre is kell majd szállnom, de ezt igyekszem kényelmi szempontok helyett az idő hatékony beosztásával indokolni majd.

2015. május közepén döntöttünk az intézet vezetőivel úgy, hogy érdemes belevágni, így bő három hetem volt az indulásig. Ezalatt kellett programot szervezni, logisztikailag és lelkileg felkészülni az útra. Itt dőlt el, hogy mely országokba fogok tudni ellátogatni. Végül a következő út mellett döntöttem:

Június 8-28. Brazília;

Június 29 - július 14. Argentína;

Július 15-30. Chile;

Augusztus 1-12. Peru;

Augusztus 13 - szeptember 1. Ecuador

Latin America was an interesting, exotic but far away continent for me, which I always wanted to visit. While living in Spain, my friends were telling me stories about their journeys, experiences and family-ties in the continent. Sometimes it seemed to me if Spain were a “joint” former colony of Latin American states. J After the Hungarian government announced the new policy “Opening to the South”, the Institute of Foreign Affairs and Trade was starting to organize a conference and a training program regarding Latin-America. During these events we realized that Hungary absolutely lacks young expert of the region with a good command of Spanish and/or Portuguese, with academic background and field experience. As an economist, who sees niche in the market, I started to soften my bosses in the Institute that we need a good Latin-America expert, who could be eventually me. This was the easy part. They accepted and supported my efforts to organize a study tour during the summer, when I have no courses at the university (I am associate professor at the Department of World Economics, Corvinus University of Budapest).

The Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Hungarian embassies and consulates, furthermore the embassies of the target countries in Budapest all helped me organizing official visits to partner institutes, think tanks, universities and to the Hungarian communities in the region. I got a lot of help from my friends in Spain (Gracias a Carmen y Fede! J) Perhaps the most important part of my trip will be - next to the official visits – that I will be able to get know the different cultures, habits, dialects, the regional and local histories and stories of families, business culture and political life of the people. To be able to achieve my goals I have chosen to organize the trip as a backpacker. During most of my trip I will use bus and train connections, however sometimes due to spar time I will consider some flights as well.

We decided with my bosses in the Institute in mid May 2015 that my trip has green light, so I had a bit more than 3 weeks to organize the main points of the tour and first stops For physical preparation is too late, I am in good shape anyway, for mental it is never enough. That will be my first long backpacker journey nearly alone in a faraway continent. I am more than excited. Finally we decided the following rout:

8-28 June: Brazil;

29 June - 14 July: Argentina;

15-30. July: Chile;

1-12 August: Peru;

13 August - 1 September: Ecuador
