Saõ Joao del Rei
I started from Ouro Preto at 8 o'clock to Belo Horizonte, then I changed to a bus of an other company to Saõ Joao. I arrived at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. I took a taxi (without sightseeing) to the hotel to check-in rapidly and to be able to enter in some museums and churches before closing time. The Saõ Francisco de Assis church looks like just I imagined an late 18th century, colonial style church in the New world. It remembered me to the main cathedral in Trinidad, Cuba. Then I continued my walk, tried to enter into the Museum of regional history, but I was too late.
During wandering I realised a mass in one of the shops, which turned to be a bakery. Pasteleria da Carma was a typical shop of the district, and if in a shop the local people are queueing and buying, it's a "must have" for every adventurer. So, as proved before, I ordered on my fabulous Portuguese one cake filled with hacked meet, other filled with "Franfurter" and a dessert, which was a snail form pastry sprinkled with coco and raisin, furthermore it was dipped into a type of sweet milk ("dulce de leche", washed down by cold mango juice, and these altogether for 6 BRL = 2 USD. That was the most cost-efficient lunch I have ever had in Brazil, until now.
After it I found the local market, where I could not resist the temptation to buy my favourite banana-type: platano (a small, finger sized banana with very intensive taste), and papaya with lime. I have learned in Indonesia, that the papaya taste the best with freshly juiced lime on the top. Tonight's program will be watching movies and writing in the bed, because a nice tropical rain arrived to the city, so I can use my free time for working. :-)
