Puerto Varas and Vulcano Osorno
On the 14th at night I finally arrived in Puerto Montt, but unfortunately didn't see anything but the hotel. The next day I changed city for Puerto Varas, which is a pearl next to the lake Llanquihue, in the afternoon I visited (by public transport) to Frutillar, which is on the other side of the lake. It owes a huge music hall, where they celebrate once a year a music week. I would like to see the rate of return in the feasibility study! :-))) The city (and the whole region) is very "German", there are in very city a German club, a Kuchenladen (pastry), the houses are made of wood, constructed in Hansa-style, and in Puerto Varas there is a German school, where my guide was studying. Bruno Rademacher was a wonderful host and has a very nice apartment, I was renting with view to the lake. In the morning we were heading to the Vulcane Osorno passing by villages covers by ash. In April 2015 the other Vulcane Calbuco exploded without warning and its ashes reached Argentina. They are still cleaning up the ash from the streets and gardens. The view of some part of the are is like on the Moon but anyway charming. We arrived to a river Petrohué where people were fly-fishing and some were trying catching tourist for a boat-Tour in theTodos Los Santos (All Saints') lake, which was discovered (what a surpirse) on All Saints' day by Jesuits. We visited a small waterfalls as well. After we drove up to the Vulcane Osorno, where I was convinced to reach the top with the cable car for skiing, but when we arrived to the ski station and I get off the car while the wind was blowing snow to my face and I couldn't even open my eyes, I reconsidered my position. I even had a nice excuse, because the cable cars were out of order due to the heavy wind. :-) The 4x4 had to strain himself to get up and down... After arriving to the "hütte" (refuge) on the cable car station we had a nice "once" (eleven) which is a sort of Chilean dinner (caffe or tee, bread, butter and jam, fried eggs and a "kuchen"), they are serving at 5-6 o'clock as a kind of heavy "5 o'clock tee". Which I ordered for lunch. The owner was a bit surprised. :-) We arrived back to the city at around 5.30 pm and I bought a nice fridge-magnet to my collection. :-)
